Natuurmonumenten Vredevoetpad

Vredevoetpad

The 7.5 km Vredevoetpad Natuurmonumenten loop-walk circles the Tienhovense Plassen and passes a museum, historic windmill and birdwatching areas.

The Vredevoetpad starts at the Streekmuseum Vredegoed. Check their website for opening times. The path passes through marsh areas that are bird breeding grounds. Stay on the path. Eventually the path joins the Dwarsdijk road and passes the water-filled remains of peat diggings. You will pass the windmill Trouwe Wachter. When you turn left on Nieuweweg you are following the border of Utrecht and North Holland. There are good views across the Breukelveensche or Stille Plas to the north. The return leg south is along the road through the villages of Tienhoven and Oud-Maarsseveen.

Personal Notes

I was very lucky to be given entry to the Streekmuseum Vredegoed on a day it was closed. I like these intimate museums that have a lot of heart. I will hopefiully come back one weekend with my family. The path zig-zags around and area known as the Taart Punt (Cake Slice). It is part of the Klompenpad called Het Zoddenpad. I have to check out more Klompenpaden walking paths on their website. Many bird were breeding here and flying overhead. The walk northwards along the road is easy, the highlight being the windmill. I'm not a big fan of walking along roads but there are several cafes you could stop at on the final walk back to the start.
