Oude Polderwandeling Amsterdamse Bos

Oude Polderwandeling

The 7 km Oude Polderwandeling is walking route no. 1 in the Amsterdam Forest. The loop-walk passes the Bosbaan, wetlands, lake, and farm landscapes.

Formerly the Koenenwandeling. A walk around the northern side of the Amsterdamse Bos, taking you past the Nieuwe Meer (New Lake), Polder and Islands Meerzicht, the Pancake Restaurant ‘Boerderij Meerzicht’, and the Bosbaan rowing course. Opportunities to see many birds and great for kids. Part of the Amsterdam Forest walks. A brochure of the walk (€1.50) is available from the Bos Winkel Information Centre at the park’s main entrance.

Personal Notes

I have done this walk many times. Closest to Amsterdam so handy for a 1-2 hour walk. This Sluis (Lock) is the first example of Amsterdam School design, by Piet Lodewijk Kramer. There are 64 bridges like this throughout the park. The Bosbaansluis, crossed by a bascule bridge, drops something like 4m from the Nieuwemeer level. It gives you an idea of how far below water level the Amsterdam Forest is. There's a bird watching Marshland Viewing platform just before you get to the Meerzicht Polder. That polder is an original farm, the Boederij Meerzicht Pancake Restaurant was a popular Tea House in the 1930s which saved it from being razed like other in the area. The Meerzicht Islands is a nice place to stop for a break. Track joins the Bosbaan rowing course which is a long straight walk back to the start, crossing another bascule bridge on the way. You can deviate from the main track and stay next to the course until you get to De Bosbaan café. The trees here are the oldest in the park and the structure at the end is also Amsterdam School.
