Amsterdamse Bos Hooglanderwandeling

Hooglanderwandeling

The 6 km Hooglanderwandeling is an unmarked loop-walk in the Amsterdam Forest. The walking route passes by Scottish Highlander cows and the Schinkel Forest.

This walk circles the Schinkelbos in the southwestern corner of the Amsterdam Forest. It also shares some similar walking paths with the Natuurboswandeling (track number 5). Both areas have Scottish Highlander cows, hence the name of the walking route. Much of the track is covered in forest and there are plenty of ponds and canals. The walk is suitable for all ages. The section around the Schinkelbos is not a hardened path. In winter it may get muddy.

Personal Notes

Easy walk for the family. The section around the Schinkelbos is on an unhardened path, so could be difficult for pushchairs. May also get muddy after wet weather. The ponds here were full of frogs in late April. Was quite loud. We saw Scottish Highlander cattle within the trees. There might also be some good bird-watching here. The track through the forest follows a similar path to the Natuurboswandeling, walking track number 5. It does not go as far in though, and we saw no cattle in this section. The walk back to the track start was pleasant with some nice ponds where you can take a break.
