Personal Notes

A small but very interesting museum. Comenius lived through the times of the 80 Years War and Dutch Golden Age. As a Protestant he was forced out of Bohemia in 1621 due to the religious wars. It was the first time of several where he lost his property and works. He moved to Poland and eventually assisted Sweden and England in educational reforms. Forced out of Poland once more he settled and lived out his remaining life in Amsterdam. His works were hugely influential and he was far ahead of his times.
